Overview

This table provides a percentage breakdown of the four levels of hospice care with further sub-categories that identify the location of each level of care. We breakout the levels of care into three subgroups based on the place of service where the care was provided. 

Understanding the Metrics

This table breaks down the different levels of care and the locations where that service takes place.  The row will add up to 100%. Although not every hospice will provide every type of care, nor will all locations be represented, the row will still add up to 100%.

• Routine Home Care is the most common level of hospice care provided, whether at the patient's home or in a medical facility. This care can be provided in the patient's home, at a hospice facility, a SNF, or an assisted living facility. The percentage of this level of care is generally in the mid 90's.
• Continuous Care is primarily nursing care provided when a patient needs more than 8 hours of care in a day. This type of care is provided for patients with acute symptoms or who need extensive pain control interventions.
• Respite Care is provided to allow the patient's family member caregivers temporary relief from providing care to the patient. Respite care is provided for a maximum of five consecutive days and can be provided in any care setting that has the personnel to provide 24 hour care.
• General Inpatient Care is provided for patients who cannot be cared for in any other setting. Like respite care this can be provided by any facility has the ability to provide 24 hour care.

If a column contains no metric, no care of that type was provided by the selected hospice during the reporting period. In addition, all of these metrics are rounded, so if you add them together, it is highly unlikely that they will be exactly 100%.
